Individual inventors and un-funded startup companies often cannot afford the high costs charged by patent professionals. Discount patent work is generally not available due to the extremely high demand for this kind of work. However, some low-cost resources are: An excellent book that teaches you how to write a patent is "Patent it Yourself", by David Pressman, published by Nolo Press. The city of Sunnyvale has a Patent Library. Many resources are available here at low cost, such as an inventor's club.
